OS 1398: Fun With Capt. Larry!

There’s nothing quite like fall on the First Coast, and finally…HERE WE ARE! The best part for the guys? DEER SEASON!!!!

Since Jeff was out doing some big-time OSR in Georgia (just wait for the story…), Capt. Kevin and Capt. Kirk had the chance to fill the empty chair with a good friend and a local legend: Capt. Larry Miniard! Capt. Larry sparked a conversation about how great the fishing has been locally for the past several days, and the boys chimed in with stories of their own.

It was a morning filled with all kinds of stories about all things fishing and hunting – great stuff you can’t afford to miss.

And last, but most certainly not least, Capt. Kevin shared the story surrounding the passing of his dog Fancy. While in Georgia, she was bitten by a rattlesnake and succumbed shortly after. So, for the Faver family, please give your pets a whole lot of extra love today (and every day).

If you’re concerned about potential snake encounters for your dog, here are some tips:

  1. Avoidance – keep them on a leash whenever possible when snakes are most active (March-October in the southeast US), keep them out of high grass
  2. Training – teach them “leave it” or a recall command and use it consistently.  Contact a professional trainer for specific snake avoidance training (they use live, defanged snake paired with scent training).
  3. Vaccination – Red Rock Biologics makes a rattlesnake vaccine can reduce the effects of a bite. Ask your veterinarian about it.

Here’s your L.V. Hiers gear tip of the week: Capt. Kirk’s a big fan of the TIDEWE heated hunting chair: Warmth, stability, silence—all dialed in. Dual heating zones with 3 settings, 10-hour runtime, and auto-safety shutoff. Sturdy 350-lb frame, silent swivel, and easy transport. Hunt comfortably, no distractions. Find yours at tidewe.com . Here’s your Ring Power CAT tip of the week: This is the time of year when scrapes should be all over your property. So much fun to hang your camera and watch the way deer use scrapes. Biggest tip…make sure you hide the camera! Mature bucks will NOT leave a scrape if he knows a camera is in his area!
