OS 1281: Big Fish, Bad Heat

Jeff was out of pocket this week, so Capt. Kevin and Capt. Kirk welcomed in Fishing Forecast co-host Capt. Scott Shank!  Good thing, because there was a lot of fishing stuff to talk about – to be honest, the guys agreed that the bite has been incredible, especially for kings, cobia and tarpon (unless you’re big on catching sharks…if that’s the case, you’re in heaven!).  Unfortunately, the big news of the day is the same news we’ve talked about for the past several days: THE HEAT.

But there was another issue that popped up worthy of discussion: how to take care of your business at the ramp.  The guys shared stories, tips and insights into ramp etiquette, safety, and communication.

  • Here’s your L.V. Hiers gear tip of the week: Wrap-It storage straps are awesome to have on the boat. You can organize ropes, cords, wash down hoses etc.
  • Here’s your Ring Power CAT tip of the week: You need to keep your boat waxed and in good order! Woody Wax is easy and works well. $25 at West Marine.
  • Here’s your Kirbyco Builders Inc. cooking tip of the week from Captain Kevin: If you are planning on having a crab boil or a shrimp boil save the shells from each and boil them down for a stock for later use. Great use for seafood bisque, crab bisque etc!
